Four more modern haiku

It's hot today, so keeping things brief...

I

Fruit machine winner
returns to coin slots like a
dog to its vomit.

II

To infinity
and… there is no beyond, but
I guess that’s the point.

III

Power-mongers hate
renewables ‘cos Third World
has plenty solar.

IV

Climate of Hunter,
Tilt, Drift, Bish Bosch – progression
of music and mind.

NaPoWriMo day 5

One-sixth of the way through NaPoWriMo already! Today's theme/prompt is ‘cinquains’ (five-line poems). Having never heard the term, I looked it up and found a variant called 'cingku' which is 17 syllables in 5 lines (inspired by tanka and haiku), emphasis on careful placing of line breaks. Here's my first five attempt at this form of five...

Cinqku2

Marking assignments
Stops me writing poems,
But cinqku
Are so
Short.

Barry Scott,
Fake shouty man,
Sells on TV -
Bang!
And the cinqku's gone.

Quincunx,
A throw of the die,
One in six chance,
Arranged
One within four.

End of the week,
Tomorrow
I’m farming,
Shovelling dung,
Quiet toil.

Mortgage paid this month,
Some cash to hand,
Hmm, a book sale…
Cash gone,
Books here.

Three nerd haiku

Voyager

Mankind's first object
To leave the solar system,
I hope you are found.

Maglev

Bismuth, you can cause
Things to hover by being
Diamagnetic.

Tagish Lake

Nano-diamonds
In space-grit found here on Earth
Pre-date the solar system.

Three more modern hailku

Gadget

Digital compact,
Why do you often prefer
Watching the background?

Internet myth

Kurt Cobain gone and
Justin Bieber born – that’s the
Day the music died.

Connection

Broadband down again,
Company blames rain or snow,
Time to check realbook.

Three everyday teatime haiku

Inspired by today's visit to the ever-splendid Art House gallery/cafe...

Skiving work today,
Sitting in the ArtHouse caff,
Sipping at my tea.

Morning summer rain
Nearly made me stay at home,
Now there is sunshine.

Inverted lion,
Butterflies, donation tube -
Things in the ArtHouse.

Three modern haiku

Teacher's lament

It's sunny outside,
I want to play in the dirt,
Marking pays the bills.

Entomology

Tell me bluebottle;
Why come indoors just to bang
Your face on the glass?

The garden planner

Speckled wood basking
On dry soil, new pond half-dug
Soon for water-bugs.
