NaPoWriMo day 13
NaPoWriMo day 13, a gentle prompt - "taking a walk". This was inspired by a stroll (or three) along my local stretch of river...
Arterial flow
River Itchen, wildlife haven,
Passes through our car-clogged town,
Bringing eel and lamprey,
Sinuous swimmers,
Salmon weir-leaping, redd-building,
‘Ratty’ water vole busily paddles, V-waked,
Bead-black eyes fixed on the job at paw,
As swan-galleons drift stately by,
Their air of gravitas broken only when,
Feet slapping, they take flight,
Or hiss at too-close passers-by,
Else coot and moorhen plumply bicker,
Stickybeaks poked into others’ business,
And all the while, in a still side-channel,
Rare Southern damselfly,
Dart and perch, mercury-marked.
